Can I use Element as my Designer and Contractor?

Absolutely! This is why we chose the Design-Build method. While every project starts with design, you do have the option of using us as your general contractor. Depending on project size and complexity, we work one of two ways:

1. In House Interior Designer/Project Manager will be responsible for hiring and managing sub contractors, client will contract with Element for the design and construction.

2.  For projects more complex in nature or on a short deadline, we partner with the best contractors and builders in town to complete your project. Our Interior Designer will work hand in hand as Project Manager with the contractor to ensure your project is completed to specs, on time and on budget.

To know more, read “Why we decided to go the design-build approach”

Why we decided to go the design-build approach?
  • Design-build simplifies the remodeling and home building process. In a traditional owner-designer-contractor agreement, the designer or architect would design a space and once design is complete, would be sent out to a contractor(s) to bid the job. This in itself could cause many frustrations to a homeowner as the project could come in way over budget, and cause the project to go back to the designer to revise the design to fit within budget, this means more design fees to the client. Alternately, the project could not go back to the designer for revision, and the contractor could suggest alternate solutions to reduce investment, but then the homeowner is at stake for losing the design intended.
  • This among many other incidences drove us to combine our talents to give the very best experience to our clients. We also realized that specializing in holistic, biophilic interiors focused on increasing our clients well-being was a huge undertaking and to develop the desired end result that would be best for our clients, design-build just made sense!
  • The design-build model offers homeowners offers several benefits such as shared project goals, accountability, design continuity, and direct and honest communication. With this model, we are all on the same team!
What is a Healthy Home?

The way we build is affecting our health and well-being. It is infact unlikely that your home does not contain toxic materials and finishes. The goal with a healthy home is to help you select safer and healthier alternatives that are just as beautiful.

What is Living In Place Design?

Living in Place Design is an innovative solution provider addressing the issue of how people can best live in their own homes through the aging process.

“Universal design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability.” That’s according to the Centre of Universal Design website, which goes on to say that, “An environment (or any building, product, or service in that environment) should be designed to meet the needs of all people who wish to use it. This is not a special requirement for the benefit of only a minority of the population. It is a fundamental condition of good design.”

What is Holistic Interior Design?

The holistic interior design (or well-being design) approach considers the health of the mind, body and soul of people that inhabit a space. This design considers and creates for the whole person rather than just a space’s form and function alone. This type of design ensures the room or area will promote the physical, mental and spiritual health of the people who live in a space. Through our knowledge of lighting design, color psychology, ergonomics, and universal design, just to name a few, we create environments that optimize your well-being.

What is Biophilic Design?
  • Biophilia means the “love of life or love of nature”, and is a modern take to traditional Feng Shui. People have an innate desire to be connected to nature, this fundamental connection in today’s world can often times feel lost.
  • An environment disconnected with nature can have a negative effect on health, productivity, and well-being. Even simple ways to incorporate nature in our spaces have a huge impact on the way we work, live, learn and heal. Studies have shown that adding biophilic elements to interiors can reduce stress, and lower blood pressure and heart rates.
  • Incorporating natural light, vegetation, living walls and natural textures and materials provides a positive impact on our well-being.
